About a week ago, I was feeling some strong urges to take self portraits and make composites. I've always loved composite imagery and surrealism. While studying photography at MHCC, I practiced both by making a series of portraits in which each subject was holding a frame. Through the magic of editing, I made each subject appear to be invisible, but only where the frame would cover them. This allowed viewers to see what was behind the person photographed, while also still seeing a part of them.
Naturally, I named the series, "What's Behind You?". I feel my artistic abilities have improved since that series, but I'm happily transparent and constantly working to further my skills. That being said, you're welcome to view the old series by clicking here. This time around, I wanted to reuse my trusty old frame, but I wanted to do it one better. I took it a step further and rather than just making whatever was in the frame appear invisible, I decided to make it look as though someone were actually being transported through the frame, to Somewhere Else. In a single afternoon, with additional modeling and assistance from my stunning friend Makenna(pictured 1st), we've created four images for your viewing pleasure. The series will officially be named "Somewhere Else", as it was inspired by my childhood longings to be swept away in some sort of magical adventure. I plan to continue the series with future instalments down the road, so keep an eye out! Enjoy!

This week, I'd like to share a little throwback from before the sun left us last year.
A client introduced me to this little gem called Wintler Park and I love it! If you're looking for a chill beach area in the Portland area, this Vancouver spot is just across the river from the Portlan Airport. While I quickly became obsessed with this lovely view of the river, the park also has nice wooded areas that showcased some gorgeous fall colors. We were even treated with some tunes on the ukulele. How fitting for the surroundings, right? Big thanks to this young man and his family that arranged this session. Congrats on your upcoming graduation! It gives me great pleasure to present this family session I did just before Christmas!
A very sweet couple I got to work with recently showed their portraits to family and just had to get some more done. When their parents requested I do portraits with them, their daughters, their daughter's husbands, and children, I admit I was a little nervouse as I added the number of bodies together. However, this beautiful family was an absolute dream to work with. When the arranged day arrived, the weather was unkind and brought us wind and rain, but there was a bright and happy energy as we all jumped around one of the patios at Edgfield, in efforts to grab the attention of four little ones. Wishing you all a happy 2019 as we breeze through February, please enjoy highlights from my lest sessionn of 2018. What's that? A blog post? I'm back!
I've been quiet on the blog the last two months, in lieu of a transitional time I entered into near the end of last year. If you aren't aware, I keep another job outside of photography. This allows me to really focus on the quality and time I give my customers, without charging large amounts. I'm very pleased to announce that I will now be available for sessions all day, every Saturday and Sunday! Evening sessions may be scheduled during the week as well. I'll be doing a bit of catching up on the blog in my next few posts, but this week I wanted to share photos that were just taken today. My husband and I borrowed my parents' Westie for a stroll through Multnomah County's latest snow fall. The adventurous little Kekoa enjoyed every minute of our walk up Powell Butte, smelling all the smells and making a handful of new friends. As we enter into this joyous holiday season, I'd like to look back on the first elopement session I had the honor of doing for a very sweet young couple! Every wedding is so special and unique to the couple who planned it. Sometimes a big party with all your friends and family is the perfect way to celebrate. This time, a handful of people in the woods were all we needed to comemorate this beautiful beginning. Watching along were their fathers, an officiant, and myself. I've honestly always wanted to be a part of one of these beautiful small services and these two did not dissapoint! They were so full of joy and love for eachother and it was absolutely wonderful just being there as they spoke their handwritten vows. Please join me in wishing these two all the happiness in the world as they take it on together!
It's been a bit since my last post! How is everyone? I've been working hard at a new job to help keep my prices low for my wonderful clients. I recently had the honor of taking portraits with one of the sweetest little familys! Our timing was perfect, if I do say so myself. Their precious little bundle of joy graced the world with her presence exactly one week after our session! Enjoy these highlights of the proud parents and new big brother. Congratulations and thank you for choosing Beka Nichele Photography!
Book your portraits now, while family sessions are $25 off! If you haven't gotten your senior's portrait taken this year, now is the time! This lovely lady and I took a walk around the Powell Butte Nature Park. With a variety of open and wooded scenery, this is definitely a favorite spot of mine for portrait taking. The colors of autumn are here and we had so much fun playing in them! Enjoy these highlights of our nice little stroll. Be sure to get some senior portraits before your school's due date! Book with me today!
These two were such a joy to photograph and celebrate this past summer! We took some portraits at The Grotto before heading to their beautifuly decorated tent wedding! All of the food and decor was prepaired by these two and their loved ones. They were such sweet and welcoming hosts. The Groom himself even delivered beverages to guests moments before the ceremoney. Please enjoy some highlights from their big day! Congratulations to this perfect pair!
One man has successfully stolen the hearts of an entire city. You might know him as Todd, or you might know him as Mr. Gresham. If you don't know who Todd is, he is simply the warmest individual you could find on earth. He delivers food and smiles to the people of Gresham. He really takes care of us and loves on everyone.
On Saturday, September 22, Citizens filled the sidewalks of Main Street to cheer on Todd in his very own parade. Fire trucks, an army of cheerleaders, and a police escort led the way as Mr. Gresham made his entrance in The Batmobile. After the exciting trip down Main Street, a stunning bronze statue of his likeness was unveiled. It truely was amazing to see a community come together to thank this man for all the joy he creates. I couldn't be more excited about this engagement! My wonderful sister in law got herself a perfect gentleman and they plan on tying the knot next summer. To celebrate their engagement, we took a drive to the Annual Dahlia Festival at the Swan Island Dahlias for a photo session.
I adore pairing this girl's hair with popping colors, as seen in early blog posts, Autumn Grace Part 1 and Part 2. These two are the sweetest and I can't wait to be a part of the big day next year! Enjoy these engagement highlights! |
